Is newborn jaundice 168 high?

Patient's question:

My baby's complexion is a bit yellow, and there are also a few white spots on both sides of the nose. I'm not at ease, so I asked the doctor. The doctor said it's physiological jaundice and told me not to worry. Is 168 high for newborn jaundice?

Doctor's answer:

This jaundice is only mildly elevated and may be caused by breast milk jaundice. When it is confirmed to be breast milk jaundice, it is not recommended to stop breastfeeding. Instead, feed in small amounts with frequent meals, perform clockwise abdominal massage to increase intestinal peristalsis, take traditional Chinese medicine for jaundice to promote bilirubin excretion, and expose the baby to sunlight to change the structure of indirect bilirubin, forming a light isomer that is beneficial for excretion in the urine. Breastfeeding can only be stopped when the bilirubin level exceeds 15 mg/dL. If the bilirubin level significantly decreases, breast milk jaundice is considered to be breast milk jaundice, and breastfeeding can still continue.
