Publisher:
Publication Date: 2004-06-01
Features: Who is Lu Xun? Politicians called him a "flag bearer" because of his phrase "to confront a thousand scowls with a cold frown"; scholars revered him as a "spiritual leader" for his words "not to spare a single one"; thinkers regarded him as a "great night watchman" for awakening those who slumbered in their homes. However, his wife, Xu Guangping, called him a "little white elephant." Lin Xiangzhi believes that over the years, Lu Xun has become a symbol with different colors. Determined to bring Lu Xun back to the human world from the empire of symbols through his commentary on Selected Works of Lu Xun, Lin Xiangzhi writes, "To understand the Chinese people and the comprehensive national spirit of China, there is no shortcut except to read Lu Xun's works." The first thing you see is this line on the bookmark, which moves one's heart. In fact, quite a few selected works of Lu Xun have been published in recent years. This time, Hunan People's Literature Publishing House has released five books, including Lu Xun's novels, essays,, prose, and prefaces and letters. The features of this set are first, the illustrations, and second, the commentary by Lin Xiangzhi. Most of the illustrations are woodcuts, simple yet profound, along with photographs and autographs of the early versions of Lu Xun's works. And Lin Xiangzhi's commentary is, of course, a modern interpretation of the classics, sometimes hiding sharp wit in his words, making the reading experience quite exhilarating. This is also one of the reasons why we want to read Lu Xun and find it fresh every time we read him.
