Da Wang: Zhang Zuolin's Secret Legacy (A Long Historical Novel)

Author: Song Ping

Publish Date: 2005-05-01
Features: This book tells the story of Zhang Zuolin, a former warlord from humble beginnings with nothing to his name in old China, who used his strategic wisdom to rise to prominence during a time of national crisis. Starting with command of a private army, he eventually became the powerful Manchurian and Mongolian king, unifying the three provinces of Northeast China and achieving great fame. He launched the Zhili-Fengtian War twice and led his troops into the Guandong region, reaching the pinnacle of his ambitious career—becoming the Grand Marshal of the Republic of China's National Army and Navy (the highest national leader at the time). However, his fortune did not last long. Under pressure from the Northern Expeditionary Army, his forces suffered successive defeats and were forced to retreat back into the Guandong region. Additionally, due to his repeated refusal to sign unequal treaties under the threat and temptation of the Japanese, he was assassinated by the Japanese in Houghton Station. This book is highly readable, with vivid character portrayals. Although it is a novel, it is considered a credible historical account, free from fictional embellishments, leaving readers deeply reflective upon finishing.
