When will the neonatal toxic erythema be healed?

Patient's question:

The baby is only 4 days old. In the morning, I noticed many red spots on the child's face. My husband and I were very worried. The doctor said it was toxic erythema. I want to know how long it takes for toxic erythema to heal?

Doctor's answer:

The lesions include erythema, papules, wheals, and pustules. Some may initially present with diffuse erythema, followed by pale yellow or white papules and pustules, with a firm base and a surrounding red halo, scattered in distribution, and occasionally coalescing. Mild to moderate neonatal toxic erythema does not require special treatment; attention should be paid to skin hygiene. This condition has self-limited characteristics and does not lead to severe complications, making isolation unnecessary. The general prognosis is good, with spontaneous resolution occurring within 7–10 days. Recurrence is rare.
