Features: Since the early 1980s of the last century, when the subject of "Choral Conducting" was introduced into music education programs, tens of thousands of primary and secondary school music teachers have acquired a highly practical musical art skill. Whether in classroom teaching or extracurricular activities, this skill is versatile, applicable, and impactful. It has played a significant role in helping teachers improve teaching quality, expand activity areas, and enhance professional influence and sense of achievement. At the same time, it has made invaluable contributions to the social popularization and advancement of choral conducting art, as well as to the development of mass choral activities and the cultivation of key personnel. It can be said that designating "Choral Conducting" as a compulsory course in music education programs has been immensely beneficial. Over the past two decades, its teaching achievements have been remarkable, development rapid, and influence profound. I believe my evaluation is not excessive. Of course, compared to the important position this course holds in the teaching framework of music education programs and the higher demands students face in their future careers, there are still many pressing issues that need to be addressed. Textbook development is one such aspect that cannot be overlooked. The teaching content of "Choral Conducting" differs in presentation form from other subjects, but the relationship and significance between textbook development and curriculum development are (the same) as those of other subjects. At the invitation of Shanghai Music Publishing House, we revised the "Choral Conducting" textbook for higher normal schools. The purpose of selecting and compiling this book is to provide applicable teaching materials for the choral conducting courses in music education programs of normal schools, with the aim of helping students develop their perception and appreciation of choral music, improving their lesson preparation and teaching abilities regarding choral music, and serving as a reference for their future work in choral education.
