Features: Pride and Prejudice is one of the most renowned and enduring works in the world, included in Maupassant's recommended "Top Ten World Novel Classics," and Austen's most beloved and widely circulated work. Jane Austen is one of the few renowned female writers in history, known as a "miniature painter" and "domestic novelist" who straddles the lyrical romanticism between Neoclassicism and the Romantic Movement. Literary critics regard her as a British writer comparable to Shakespeare in terms of immortality. According to a BBC poll released on December 13, 2003, Pride and Prejudice ranked second in the "Favorite Novels of the British." In 1985, it was selected by LIFE magazine as one of the "Best Books of All Time," ranking fourth.
