Features: Flowing Years and Flowing Years in Images are a series of humanistic, historical, and geographical publications released successively. They review history from a contemporary perspective, record the progress of the times through documentary texts, and bear witness to past events with highly impactful images. The scenery of flowing years yesterday is also today, and even more so, the future. Flowing Years primarily includes the collection and excavation of historical materials and relics, reflections on history, and nostalgic remembrances of natural landscapes, among other themes. Flowing Years in Images is a companion publication to Flowing Years, intended to further expand and extend the flowing years theme through the medium of images. The power of the camera lens is always immense—it requires little text, merely a genuine glimpse of real scenes to carry the essence of history. The Flowing Years Studio calls for the return of humanistic spirit in both writing and images. Whether it is the weighty historical texts or the simple narratives of eyewitnesses, they all embody the authentic rhythm of time passing. This book selects 150 precious images of ancient Beijing captured by renowned photographers such as Shen Jiguang and Qian Yu, recorded in concise and accessible prose. They preserve fragments of memories from the lost ancient city. These images include various old objects no longer commonly used by modern citizens, dismantled old hutongs and buildings, as well as scenes of daily life in the 1970s and 1980s. All of them evoke our nostalgia and reflections on ancient Beijing.
