Currently, the development of agriculture and rural economy is in a stage of surmounting difficulties, and there are still many contradictions and problems. To comprehensively build a moderately prosperous society in rural areas, it is necessary to coordinate urban and rural economic and social development, actively promote the transformation of agricultural growth patterns, improve the level of agricultural science and technology and equipment, and accelerate the construction of modern agriculture. To achieve this grand goal of comprehensively building a moderately prosperous society in rural areas, it is essential to develop advanced productive forces and advanced culture, safeguard the fundamental interests of the vast majority of farmers, and leverage the role of science and technology as productive forces. We must accelerate the transformation of scientific and technological achievements into practical productive forces and firmly shift the development of agriculture and rural economy onto the track of relying on scientific and technological progress and improving the quality of laborers. Science and technology are the primary driving force for the economic and social development of rural areas and the decisive factor for agriculture and rural economy to continuously advance to new levels. Relying on scientific and technological progress, we must promote the transformation of traditional agriculture into high-quality, high-yield, high-efficiency, ecological, and safe modern agriculture. We must firmly focus on enhancing the competitiveness of agricultural products, increasing agricultural efficiency, and raising farmers' income as the main direction, and build an agricultural science and technology progress and innovation system that is adapted to the strategic adjustment of agricultural structure. We must improve and strengthen the operational mechanisms for efficient agricultural research, technology extension, and farmer training, promote the industrialization of agricultural science and technology, meet the scientific and educational needs for building modern agriculture and promoting the sustainable development of the rural economy, and narrow the overall gap with developed countries to promote rural economic prosperity and accelerate the construction of modern agriculture. Accelerating the progress of agricultural science and technology is urgent, and the hope for agricultural modernization lies in scientific and technological progress. To implement the strategy of revitalizing agriculture through science and education and accelerate the construction of a moderately prosperous society in rural areas, the Ministry of Agriculture has identified agricultural science and education as the top priority in agricultural and rural economic work and designated this year as the "National Agricultural Science and Technology Year." In conjunction with the activities of the "National Agricultural Science and Technology Year," China Agricultural Press has organized experts from various fields to edit and publish the "Science and Technology Revitalizing Agriculture for a Modestly Prosperous Society Series." This series focuses on scientific and technological knowledge while also covering policies and laws, considering regional characteristics, and is highly targeted, practical, and operational. It aims to provide farmers with easy-to-understand, easy-to-apply, and user-friendly scientific and technological knowledge and achievements.
