Is it normal for a baby's head to be large?

Patient's question:

My baby is nine and a half months old. He is of normal height, and his body is also quite healthy. However, his head is much larger than that of a typical child. So, I would like to know if it's normal for an infant to have a large head?

Doctor's answer:

Hello, based on the symptoms you described, it is recommended that you don't worry too much, as this is all quite normal. If you feel that your child's head is larger than that of their peers and there are no other symptoms, it is advised to take your child to the hospital for examination. If the cranial measurements are within the normal range, there is no major issue. A larger head size indicates a larger brain capacity, which may correspondingly have more gyri and sulci, making the child potentially smarter than their peers.
