Lü Yuanyuan is captivated by Pan Xiaowei's love but cannot betray her organization or abandon her duty. She finally calls the police, and this fairy-tale romance is extinguished.
The story begins with an Italian violin. After this priceless violin was stolen in China and smuggled to Hong Kong, it sparked a battle between the two major underworld factions in Hong Kong—the Pan family and the Tianlong Gang. Pan Xiaowei, the youngest son of the Pan family, was secretly sent to the mainland for refuge. Upon learning of this, our public security personnel immediately formed an investigation team, using Pan Xiaowei as a clue to track down the violin. The Tianlong Gang tracked Pan Xiaowei to Beijing, but just as the was about to attack him, our public security officers captured both of them. Interrogation revealed that the violin was in the hands of the Pan family, but since Pan Xiaowei never involved himself in family affairs, he was unaware of its exact location. Therefore, Detective Team Leader Wu Lichang sent a recently graduated female police officer, Lü Yuanyuan, disguised as a tour guide, along with several other armed police officers, to protect Pan Xiaowei's safety while investigating the priceless cultural relic violin.
This incident moved Pan Xiaowei, who finally agreed to cooperate with the police and persuade his older brother, Pan Dawei, to hand over the violin. After several days of interaction, Lü Yuanyuan and Pan Xiaowei developed a faint romance, while the police officer Xue Yu, who secretly admired Lü Yuanyuan, felt troubled. Meanwhile, after several twists and turns, our public security personnel learned that the leader of the Tianlong Gang was coming to Beijing for religious ceremonies and would, as usual, accept the Pan family's ceremonial gift—the violin. The investigation team set a trap and planned to retrieve the national treasure with Pan Xiaowei's cooperation. However, midway through the operation, unexpected complications arose: Pan Dawei ordered Pan Xiaowei to assassinate the Tianlong Gang leader during the violin presentation and escape with it.
As our public security officers searched for Pan Dawei and the violin, Pan Xiaowei secretly stole the violin and risked coming to see Lü Yuanyuan. Convinced by Lü Yuanyuan, Pan Xiaowei quietly handed over the violin to the police, and it finally returned to China. Pan Xiaowei wanted to flee south with Lü Yuanyuan. Along the way, Pan Dawei and his men guarded Lü Yuanyuan, preventing her from contacting her organization. When they reached the last small town before crossing the border, Lü Yuanyuan, taking advantage of the others' sleep, hesitated for a long time before finally overcoming personal feelings with the sense of duty as a People's Police Officer and secretly called the police. When the officers arrived, Pan Dawei and his men had already been killed in a battle with the Tianlong Gang, and Pan Xiaowei, in front of Lü Yuanyuan and her teammates, despaired and took his own life.
Back in Beijing, Lü Yuanyuan reflected on her time being held hostage, where personal feelings had caused her hesitation and conflict. Deeply self-culpa-tory, she resigned from her police duties and returned to her hometown in Northeast China. Just as she prepared to live a quiet life, she discovered she was pregnant with Pan Xiaowei's child. The child was innocent, and more so, it was her own. Lü Yuanyuan decided to keep the child. To support the child, she struggled to find jobs, but financial hardship forced her to return to Beijing, where she worked as an escort, drinking to numb herself.
Learning that the Pan family still had descendants, they tricked Lü Yuanyuan and her child to Hong Kong to reclaim the child. A year later, Lü Yuanyuan and her child died tragically on the streets, becoming victims of the internal power struggles within the Pan family.
