During this period, both writers and works achieved unprecedented scale, and the artistic quality of the works attracted worldwide attention. A large number of renowned masters and celebrated masterpieces emerged. However, the various prose anthologies labeled as "20th-century masterpieces" that we see in the book and magazine markets predominantly select works from the first half of the century, with far fewer contemporary writers included, creating a sense of imbalance.
