Features: A love tragedy that has wounded hearts for decades, portrayed by Storm with poetic charm and a lingering, heart-wrenching beauty. It depicts a love tragedy, in which: one night, the moonlight shone like water. An elderly man, alone, sat at his desk in his study. A beam of bright moonlight streamed through the window, slowly descending onto a portrait of a young girl hanging on the wall—Elizabeth, the lover who had once sincerely loved him. At this moment, the male protagonist, Reinhard, gazed at the object, reminiscing about the only love that had left an indelible mark on his heart and haunted him for life.
Several decades had passed. Now in his twilight years, he clearly realized that he could not entirely shake off the lingering attachment to this beloved in the depths of his soul. He recalled his joyful childhood, his childhood sweethearts, their innocent play and shared happiness—truly a match made in heaven. He also remembered his youth, when they grew closer, shared each other’s company, and their genuine friendship led them on a path of mutual affection, becoming inseparable lovers. He recalled the thatched cottage in his hometown, the dense forest of pines and cypresses, the clear embankment by the lake, and the sheltered hillside—where had they not left their footprints, their laughter, their tender whispers, their youth, their love.
Yet, he could never forget that day, the darkest day of his life. It happened after he left his hometown to pursue higher education in a distant land. One day, a letter from his mother brought him a thunderbolt of news: "The relationship has ended." Suddenly. Class, wealth, prejudice, and the worldly views of Elizabeth’s mother became an insurmountable chasm in their love, preventing the lovers from being together. His beloved, against whom he had yearned so deeply, ultimately yielded to her mother’s wishes, reluctantly obeying her command to marry a wealthy landowner in their hometown, becoming the lady of the estate.
From then on, the love he had longed for, the marriage he had dreamt of, became as elusive as the moon in the water or the reflection in a mirror. The beloved was gone, and the dream was shattered. Faced with this merciless reality, he felt lost, confused, and heartbroken. Yet, he accepted his fate with resignation, leaving everything to the whims of destiny.
Several years later, the male protagonist returned to his hometown and was invited to stay at the estate. The unexpected meeting with his former lover brought him a faint joy but also a strange sense of melancholy. More than anything, he could not resist the waves of bitterness that washed over him. Returning to the familiar places, the scenery remained the same, but the old love could never be rekindled. During his brief stay of a few days, the male protagonist could clearly sense from the other’s words, demeanor, and eyes that the woman he had deeply loved in the past still harbored a lingering attachment to him in her heart.
