Features: Scales and arpeggios are fundamental training content for bowed string instruments. This type of training directly relates to the development of finger flexibility, the mastery of shifting and bowing techniques, the familiarity with intervals and fingerings in different keys, and the improvement of pitch and rhythmic control. Therefore, scales and arpeggios are a comprehensive training discipline. Currently, the writing techniques of ethnic instrumental music have seen significant advancements, and the expressiveness of ethnic instrumental compositions has become richer and more profound. In erhu works, there are frequent occurrences of multi-group stepwise progressions, leaps, fast melodies, and frequent key changes. This requires performers to master a broader range of techniques. Practicing scales and arpeggios enables erhu players to more perfectly master performance techniques, thereby expressing the artistic conception of the music. Considering the characteristics of China's ethnic music, which combines both heptatonic and pentatonic scales, both types of scales have been included in this textbook. This teaching material is suitable for intermediate to advanced levels. Beginners may find the exercises challenging, so those without prior experience should proceed at a very slow pace. The specific practice methods and requirements are as follows:
1. When practicing scales and arpeggios, the sound must be clean and accurate, with close coordination between both hands. Start with a slow tempo and gradually increase the speed once the technique is mastered.
2. When the melodies in different keys within the textbook are the same but the modes differ, pay attention to the changes in interval relationships and adjust fingerings accordingly.
3. Various rhythmic exercises can be used, such as adding dots or syncopation, but first, the original score must be played proficiently.
4. Some parts of the score indicate bowing techniques, while others do not. The teacher may propose different bowing requirements based on the student's specific situation.
