Features: The Night Before and Fathers and Sons are Turgenev's two greatest long novels. They have established an irreplaceable position in the history of Russian and world literature with their vivid artistic imagery and highly concise language, being regarded as "the most condensed and compact long novels in Russian literature." Turgenev was a great realist writer of 19th-century Russia, an outstanding and talented artistic master, and was hailed as "the novelist of novelists." His novels combine meticulous and precise "realism" with a rich poetic charm, described as "always as intriguing as an unopened telegraph," and his realism is therefore called "poetic realism." Turgenev's novels are one of the most influential world literary masterpieces in China, introduced to the country in the early 20th century and warmly received by readers. Literary masters such as Liu Banruo, Guo Moruo, and Ba Jin have all translated Turgenev's works, and their own creations were deeply influenced by him.
