Features: The 20th century was an era of major discoveries of bamboo and silk documents, especially the significant finds since the 1970s, which shocked both Chinese and international academia. Today, bamboo and silk studies have become a specialized field, regarded alongside oracle bone studies and Dunhuang studies as an international discipline of prominence. To promote the development of bamboo and silk studies, the Research Center for Bamboo and Silk Documents of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences has successively compiled and published Journal of Bamboo and Silk Studies (Volumes 1–3), Journal of Bamboo and Silk Studies 2001, Journal of Bamboo and Silk Studies 2002–2003, and Bamboo and Silk Studies Translation Series (Volumes 1–2), all of which have been highly acclaimed by the academic community. The present Journal of Bamboo and Silk Studies 2004 collects the cutting-edge achievements in bamboo and silk studies in recent years. The papers included in this volume range from micro-level textual research to macro-level interpretations, offering valuable references for experts in history, philosophy, archaeology, paleography, ancient Chinese script, and a broad readership.
