The key features of the dictionary's word selection are: 1. Clearly defined scope, with a larger word count compared to similar dictionaries; 2. Bilingual English-Chinese definitions, with concise and easy-to-understand English explanations; 3. Typical and precise English examples or sentences in the definitions, with accurate and standardized Chinese translations. The dictionary also addresses common difficulties faced by intermediate-level English learners by providing targeted solutions, including special columns for synonyms, near-synonyms, and language background knowledge, designed to highlight key areas for mastery. To emphasize the role of visual teaching while also keeping the layout lively, the dictionary includes several cartoon-style illustrations to help readers deepen their memory and understanding of the vocabulary. The appendices consist of seven sections: an irregular verbs table, a table of common English names, a table of common world place names, a table of numerical expressions, a table of units of measurement, a table of British and American festivals, and a table for comparing the English and Chinese zodiac signs, all for easy reference. During the arduous process of compiling this dictionary, the compilers referred to various versions of similar dictionaries to incorporate the strengths of different sources. We hope this dictionary will help users smoothly progress from intermediate to advanced language learning and lay a solid foundation for future language studies.
