Features: Since 1995, through research and practice in various educational and teaching reform projects supported by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health, and Beijing Municipal Government, our university has focused on the research and development of talent cultivation models and curriculum systems. We strive to achieve comprehensive training that integrates knowledge, abilities, and qualities, broaden the scope of disciplines, and particularly emphasize the combination of theory and practice. We aim to cultivate students' spirit and ability for self-learning and innovation, and foster the concept of lifelong learning. We have conducted research and practice on curriculum content, teaching methods, and assessment methods, reforming teaching and learning approaches with students as the main body and teachers as the guide. We encourage active learning, pay attention to individualized instruction, strengthen the cultivation of humanistic qualities, and emphasize education through teaching. In the process of reform, we have come to realize the important role of textbook development in teaching. However, for a long time, the medical education system has been dominated by a single set of textbooks, failing to fully reflect the characteristics of medical schools and the timely updates of teaching reforms and content. Therefore, we invited experts and professors from Peking University Health Science Center and some sister institutions to compile this series of long-term curriculum textbooks. The compilation of this series of textbooks strives to align with talent cultivation goals and teaching syllabi, reflect the level of long-term curriculum teaching, explore and attempt to break through the traditional framework of textbook compilation; showcase the transformation of educational concepts, achievements, and overall level of teaching content and method reforms at Peking University Health Science Center, establish a talent cultivation model with students as the main body, facilitate student learning and thinking, train clinical thinking skills, cultivate innovative awareness, and meet the "bilingual" teaching requirements by incorporating essential vocabulary into the textbooks. This series of textbooks collects the knowledge and teaching experience accumulated over the years by experts and professors from Peking University Health Science Center and some sister institutions. We have also made bold attempts in the compilation process. We sincerely hope that the publication of this series of textbooks can contribute to China's medical education, enabling the development of a diverse and vibrant textbook system in medical education. However, due to the imbalance in the development of disciplines and specialties, there may inevitably be shortcomings in this textbook. We welcome criticism and suggestions from relevant experts and scholars.
