Features: This book is a comprehensive academic monograph on dated Han Dynasty relief sculptures in China. As early as the Northern Wei period when Li Daoyuan wrote the Annotations to the Waterways Classic, dated Han Dynasty relief sculptures had already attracted attention. Gold and stone scholars during the Song and Qing dynasties primarily focused on them, but their work mainly involved cataloging and interpretation. After the 1980s, domestic scholars began using dated Han Dynasty relief sculptures as clues to study regional Han Dynasty relief sculptures, achieving certain results. The author of this book has conducted a thorough review of all discovered dated Han Dynasty relief sculptures. Based on this, the book explores topics such as the emergence of dated Han Dynasty tombs in ancient China, the regional characteristics of dated Han Dynasty relief sculptures, stone carvers, the relationship between images in ancestral halls and (burial chambers), the identities of tomb owners in dated Han Dynasty relief sculptures, mothers and children in dated Han Dynasty relief sculptures, the themes of Han Dynasty relief sculpture decoration, the trend of tomb raiding and (ancestral hall) destruction during the Han Dynasty, and preventive measures. The book contains over 300,000 words and more than 200 illustrations. It is suitable for researchers and university faculty and students in archaeology, history, art history, and related fields.
