Features: As is well known, the Nobel Prize was initially established with only five categories: Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, and Peace. The Economics Prize was not among them. The full name of the Nobel Prize in Economics is "The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel," which was established in 1968 on the 300th anniversary of the founding of the Sveriges Riksbank. It was funded by the central bank to commemorate Alfred Nobel and was originally distinct from the other five Nobel Prizes. However, since the Nobel Prize in Economics is also managed by the Nobel Foundation, awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, and shares the same prize amount and selection and award procedures as the other Nobel Prizes, people have come to regard it as an official "Nobel Prize."
