What should I do if my baby has umbilical?

Patient's question:

A week ago, my sister just gave birth to a little princess, and the whole family is immersed in joy. However, today we noticed redness and swelling around the umbilical cord, with purulent discharge. The doctor said it's umbilical cord inflammation. What should we do about the baby's umbilical cord inflammation?

Doctor's answer:

Check a complete blood count to assess the infection status. Clean the umbilicus with 3% hydrogen peroxide solution, and then apply 75% alcohol. Do this three times daily. Umbilical occurs at the time of cord clamping or after, and is often caused by improper cord clamping or postnatal care. Improper disinfection and poor care can easily lead to bacterial contamination, causing inflammation of the umbilicus. Common pathogens include Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, followed by hemolytic streptococcus or mixed bacterial infections, as well as foreign body irritation, which may increase the likelihood of umbilical.
