Features: This series of textbooks aims to form the following characteristics: First, strong series strength. The content is comprehensive, concise, and self-contained in series. It not only includes traditional intensive reading textbooks but also selections of articles, translation, oral communication, introduction to literature, and introduction to linguistics. They are interrelated yet avoid repetition. Second, strong strength of the writing team. This set of textbooks is mainly written by teachers from Nankai University and Tianjin Foreign Languages College. These teachers have long been engaged in teaching, with rich teaching experience and broad perspectives. The textbooks adopt a dual responsibility system of a single chief editor and a series textbook editorial committee, ensuring the quality of the textbooks. Third, strong practicality of the textbooks. The writing of the textbooks focuses on combining the characteristics of Chinese learners of Japanese and adult Chinese learners of Japanese. It absorbs the latest research findings from abroad while aligning with the actual teaching practices of Japanese in China. Textbooks that primarily impart knowledge are written in Chinese rather than simply edited, making them suitable for college students or those with equivalent proficiency in China. Fourth, fresh and lively content. The textbooks aim to break away from the rigid and formal style of previous textbooks, closely aligning with the learning characteristics of young learners. While emphasizing knowledge, they also enhance, making the learning process enjoyable and engaging. Learning Japanese varies from person to person, and so does the use of textbooks. However, the era of learning Japanese well with only one textbook has passed. Under favorable economic conditions, having multiple textbooks in hand allows for comparative learning, drawing the best from each, broadening the knowledge base, adding freshness, and strengthening the systematic nature of knowledge.
"Advanced Japanese" (Volume 1 and 2) is a Japanese intensive reading textbook co-authored by teachers from Tianjin Foreign Languages College and the School of Foreign Languages at Nankai University, designed for senior undergraduate students of Japanese. During the writing process of this book, we adhered to four principles. In terms of main text material, we insisted on the principle of keeping the textbooks up-to-date, ensuring that the articles are both contemporary and practical. Among the articles selected for this textbook, 60% are from the materials designated by the Japanese Ministry of Education in 2003. We emphasized language application skills to lay a solid foundation for comprehensive Japanese undergraduate studies. Another basic principle is to fully implement the guiding ideology of diversification in themes, selecting articles mainly including biographies, novels, and reviews to make the textbooks more practical. We also adhered to the principle of innovation in cultivating practical communication skills while controlling the difficulty and workload, aiming for a level suitable for third-year undergraduate students of Japanese in ordinary universities. This book is the first volume, consisting of 20 lessons. Each lesson mainly includes three parts: main text, sentence patterns and grammar explanations, and self-challenge exercises. The self-challenge section includes self-assessment exercises in language, grammar, and reading comprehension, designed to reinforce the knowledge learned. For the convenience of users, we did not list a separate glossary but marked the pronunciation and annotations of words in the text as side notes.
