Features: Stamp collecting is a cultural, recreational activity with broad popular appeal. I am not a professional stamp collector, although I have reached the age of 80 and still undertake a heavy editorial workload, with numerous social engagements, I still enjoy stamp collecting. Stamp collecting has indeed brought me much joy in my leisure time, and through interactions with other stamp enthusiasts, I have continuously acquired new knowledge and methods in stamp collecting, further enhancing my interest and proficiency. Recently, the elderly stamp collector Mr. Xue Dade from Shanghai wrote to me, saying that he had collaborated with four other stamp collectors to compile a comprehensive stamp album for appreciating stamps of world cultural figures. He asked me to write a preface. Having long been engaged in cultural work and being concerned with the development of stamp culture, I could not refuse and thus took the liberty of writing a few words here. This stamp appreciation album is grand in scale, rich in content, and comprehensive in its categories. Collecting such a large number of stamps, first-day covers, and used postage stamps, and introducing related knowledge, requires extensive research, a significant investment of time and effort, and considerable financial resources—truly no easy feat. It is an outstanding book in both content and form, serving as both a popular and professional resource; it is both a stamp collection and an excellent tool for art, culture, and history education, and is highly recommended to a wide readership, particularly to fellow stamp enthusiasts and young friends. Of course, this album primarily uses stamps to help readers gain a certain understanding of world cultural figures. Its role is merely that of a signpost, guiding readers closer to these individuals. To truly delve into their life stories and artistic achievements, one must directly read their works and authoritative biographies and research publications to truly enter the inner world of these figures, understand their significant role in the history of human civilization, and appreciate their outstandingness and greatness. If this album can inspire readers to make such attempts, then its achievement would be immense! This five-volume set includes: Artists, featuring over 600 prominent painters, sculptors, craftsmen, and architects; Musicians, featuring over 500 composers, instrumentalists, and singers; Literati, featuring over 700 novelists, essayists, poets, and literary critics; Theatrical and Cinematic Artists, featuring nearly 500 playwrights and performing artists; and Nobel Prize Winners, featuring laureates from various Nobel Prizes (Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, Peace, and Economics), totaling over 500 individuals. It presents portraits or works of approximately 3,000 cultural figures on stamps, accompanied by concise and concise introductions to their life stories and significant contributions. The selected stamps, first-day covers, and used postage stamps are all exquisite collectibles, with compact and elegant designs, offering a beautiful and miniature visual artistic effect. This book combines knowledge and appreciation, serving as an enlightening and enjoyable read. The album integrates knowledge and art appreciation, not only providing concise introductions to the experiences and achievements of cultural figures but also, guided by the culture of stamp collecting, showcasing rich miniature stamp images and relatively precious first-day covers, postage stamps, and (limitation postcards) in multiple layers, presenting a richly illustrated and comprehensive feature. The arrangement of figures in this album follows the order of continents and national geographical locations, with appropriate adjustments based on their historical contributions to world civilization. Within the same country, figures are arranged in chronological order according to the era in which they lived. In the fifth volume, Nobel Prize winners are arranged in the order of their prize-winning years due to special reasons. For the convenience of readers to reference the countries, regions, and issuance dates of stamp issuance, this album uniformly marks relevant reference text in the upper corners of the left and right sides of the stamps. The country names of the stamps are marked according to the country names at the time of issuance.
