Features: This book selects 1,000 English jokes and riddles that are relatively simple and easy to understand. Our intention is to provide English beginners and intermediate learners with an extracurricular entertaining reading material. Generally speaking, as long as readers have mastered 1,000-2,000 English words and learned some basic English grammar, they will not find it difficult to appreciate the humor of most of the jokes and riddles in this book.
In the selection of this book, we did not adopt a Chinese-English parallel translation method for three reasons. First, most of the selected materials are relatively simple, and readers only need to occasionally refer to a dictionary to understand them. Second, jokes and riddles in one language often have a unique "charm" that is hard to convey through translation. Once translated, they may lose their essence and interfere with readers' comprehension of the original text. Third, we hope to keep the book concise and to the point to reduce readers' financial burden.
