Features: The Chinese nation is one of the most passionate about collecting in the world, with renowned collectors throughout history. Since the reform and opening-up, a nationwide "collecting fever" has swept across China. However, collecting is an art, and even seasoned collectors can sometimes fall victim to scams. Nowadays, not only are forgeries rampant in the market for calligraphy, paintings, and antiques, but they also frequently appear at auctions, posing a real headache for collectors.
Given this, we have compiled and published this series of "Bao Fo Jiao" books, divided into two series: "Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Identification." This series emphasizes "practicality" and "operationality," aiming to provide tangible help to avid collectors. All the authors are not only experts in their fields but also "collectors" and "enthusiasts," with practical experience and a track record of "finding hidden gems" in their respective domains. Some of the works featured in the books are even their personal collections.
Mr. Tang Zhaoji, the author of Identification of Bamboo and Wood Carvings, is a renowned calligrapher, seal carver, and editor-in-chief of Shanghai Arts and Crafts. He has long been engaged in the study of ancient arts and crafts. Although this book is concise, it embodies decades of his research insights, offering a concise yet valuable guide for bamboo and wood carving collectors.
I often heard teachers criticize those who neglect classes but cram for exams as "last-minute Bao Fo Jiao" (making a desperate attempt). But does it really work? It probably does, since most people have indeed passed exams this way. In collecting, the same principle may apply—but the key is to hold onto the right "Bao Fo Jiao," not any other foot. Our books are the "Bao Fo Jiao" series, and we are indeed holding onto the right "Bao Fo Jiao." As the saying goes, "Don’t burn incense every day; only pray in desperation. With the Bao Fo Jiao series, your treasures won’t run away." Believe it or not, this is true. If you are passionate about collecting, why not give the "Bao Fo Jiao" a try?
