1. The letters included in this book, written by friends to Mao Dun, are from the collection of the Shanghai Library Chinese Cultural. Mao Dun's own writings have all been published. They are mainly selected from The Complete Works of Mao Dun (Volumes 37 and 38, People's Literature Publishing House: 1997 edition), The Collection of Mao Dun's Writings (Baihua Literature Publishing House: 1983 edition), and The Correspondence of Mao Dun (Zhejiang Literature Publishing House: 1984 edition).
2. The letters are arranged according to the authors who corresponded with Mao Dun. Works by the same author are organized in chronological order, while works by different authors are arranged by the chronological order of their respective collections.
3. Occasionally, the original letters contain awkward phrasing, which is retained as is without editing by the compilers. Suspected typographical errors or omissions in the original text are corrected with brackets for reference. Indecipherable characters are replaced with placeholders. Text within parentheses, unless otherwise noted, is part of the original text.
4. Some texts in the collections have been slightly edited for clarity.
5. Titles and footnotes are added by the compilers. Some footnotes adopt the original annotations from The Complete Works of Mao Dun (Volumes 37 and 38).
