Jane Eyre tells the story of a kind-hearted woman pursuing freedom, independence, and love. Jane lost both her parents in childhood and lived with her aunt. She suffered abuse from her aunt and cousin. By chance, she entered a charitable school, where she studied for six years and taught for two. Later, she advertised for a job and became a governess at Thornfield Hall. There, she fell in love with the master of the estate, Rochester. Just as they were preparing to marry in the church, an unexpected guest interrupted the ceremony and publicly announced that Rochester already had a wife. Although Rochester had his reasons, Jane still left him. Jane fell ill from hunger and cold and was saved by St. John. Soon, they discovered they were first cousins. Jane unexpectedly inherited a substantial amount of money from her uncle and shared it equally with St. John and his two siblings. In her heart, Jane felt as if Rochester was calling her, so she left St. John to find Rochester. At this time, Rochester had regained his sight but had lost an arm, becoming disabled. Jane remained steadfast in her love for him and finally married him quietly.
