Features: "A Study of Ancient Bronze Drums in the Sichuan University History Museum" and "A Continuation of the Study of Bronze Drums" are important early works by our institution's distinguished scholar, Professor Wen You, on the research of bronze drums. They reflect the level of bronze drum studies at that time and hold significant academic value in the history of bronze drum research. They also provide considerable reference value for archaeology in southern ethnic groups. These two books were published in May and September 1953, respectively, and have not been reprinted since. They are now extremely rare in the market, which is indeed a great regret.
Now, our institution's leadership has proposed the initiative "to organize and preserve our institutional heritage and promote our fine academic traditions." To advance the study of bronze drums and the development of ethnic archaeology in China, our institution has specially reorganized and published these two important works by Professor Wen You for academic reference. The following are the editorial notes for the compilation:
1. These two books were originally published separately. They are now combined into one volume and given new titles: "A Study of Bronze Drums" and "A Continuation of the Study of Bronze Drums."
2. The original books were typeset from handwritten copies, printed in vertical columns, and used traditional Chinese characters. They are now converted into printed text in horizontal columns with simplified characters.
3. "A Study of Ancient Bronze Drums in the Sichuan University History Museum" was not originally divided into chapters. Based on the content, it has now been appropriately sectioned, with titles added to each section. "A Continuation of the Study of Bronze Drums," although originally divided into sections, did not have titles. Titles have now been added to each section.
4. The original books did not number the illustrations, which were inserted inline with the text. To align with modern academic conventions, the illustrations have now been appropriately grouped and sequentially numbered.
5. The original books did not enclose the titles of Chinese and foreign literature in quotation marks or use special markers. They are now enclosed in quotation marks.
6. When the original books mentioned the names of foreign scholars, they generally used the Chinese translation followed by the original name, such as "Hegel P.Heger." They are now uniformly formatted as Chinese translation (original name), such as "Hegel (F.Heger)." The titles of foreign literature are treated similarly.
7. The original books generally retained their punctuation marks, with minor adjustments made in specific instances.
8. All other elements remain as originally presented.
