Patient's question:
My friend's child has just been born, but it was found that there is this hydrocele issue. It has been several days already. Their family is quite worried, and actually, I feel quite uncomfortable too. Can hydrocele in newborns disappear on its own?Doctor's answer:
Neonatal hydrocele usually resolves on its own. Don't worry too much. Since the child is just born, some swelling is normal, but it doesn't rule out unusual cases. More observation is needed. If the fluid accumulation is greater than what the body can absorb, timely help and absorption are required to avoid affecting the normal development of the newborn. In pediatric hydrocele, observation and treatment are the main approaches before the age of one, because before the age of one, most children's processus vaginalis can gradually close, and then the hydrocele can gradually absorb. However, after the age of one, the likelihood of the processus vaginalis closing on its own becomes very small. If a child comes for a check-up at this age and the hydrocele has not fully absorbed, it is recommended that parents consider active surgical treatment for their child.
