Features: Listening is one of the four basic skills in English teaching and also a challenge for Chinese students. Overcoming this difficulty not only helps in the training of other individual skills but also lays a solid foundation for cultivating students' English communicative competence. In the recently promulgated "English Teaching Syllabus for the Basic Stage of English Majors in Higher Education" and "English Teaching Syllabus for the Advanced Stage of English Majors in Higher Education" by the Ministry of Education, detailed standards for what first-, second-, third-, and fourth-year university students should achieve in listening have been specified. This book includes three parts: a glossary of new words, cultural background notes, and supplementary exercises. When using it, students should first familiarize themselves with the vocabulary listed in the glossary and read the cultural background notes. Since the second volume includes additional training such as making inferences based on context, taking notes, and organizing lecture outlines, (demonstrative explanations) have been added to the third part of lessons 1, 7, 13, 19, 25, and 31. Before doing these exercises, students should familiarize themselves with the objectives and requirements of these training exercises. The entire course is divided into three volumes. The first volume is suitable for first-year university students or beginners in English; the second volume is intended for second-year university students and self-learners with intermediate English proficiency; the third volume can be used by third- and fourth-year university students and self-learners with advanced English proficiency.
