Features: The writing of this textbook is based on the "Basic Requirements for English Course Teaching in Adult Higher Education (Non-English Major for Associate Degrees)" issued in 1997, aiming to cultivate and improve students' ability to use English as a tool for communication. Through the study of this textbook, students will master certain fundamental English knowledge and skills, develop the ability to engage in simple daily foreign-related communication, read and translate general English materials, and learn to draft simple foreign-related business application letters. This is intended to address the drawbacks of adult English teaching being disconnected from practicality and the gap between learning and application. This textbook set consists of 3 volumes, with a vocabulary starting point of 800 words.
Volume 1 focuses on basic grammar and training in fundamental listening, speaking, reading, and translation skills. Volumes 2 and 3 continue to strengthen listening, speaking, reading, and translation skills while also improving grammar application ability and adding training in drafting application letters. Each unit in the textbook is designed to meet the practical needs of specialized foreign-related activities conducted domestically, providing numerous dialogues, common sentence patterns, short passages, and application letter examples for students to study, imitate, and apply. This helps students truly master practical English and ultimately achieve the goal of applying English flexibly and adaptively in foreign-related communication.
During the writing process, the authors strive for practicality, novelty, and conciseness, emphasizing the combination of learning and application. While highlighting the characteristics of adult learners, the selection of materials also considers. The authors aim to meet the set goals, but due to time constraints, lack of experience, and limitations in ability, this textbook still has many shortcomings and omissions. We sincerely welcome criticism and corrections from and readers.
