The book is equipped with a considerable number of exercises and reflection questions to reinforce learning and apply knowledge in practice. Since its publication in 1997, "The Course" has been widely welcomed by teachers and students and has been reprinted six times. With the arrival of the 21st century, science and technology are advancing rapidly, and information knowledge is changing by the minute. In recent years, there have been many new research findings in the field of lexicology. To keep pace with the times and progress together, the author feels it is necessary to revise "The Course." This book has separated some content from the original Chapter 3 into a new chapter and rewritten it. Two new sections have been added to Chapter 2 to explain the characteristics and development trends of contemporary English. Significant changes have been made to the section on dictionaries, not only adding new dictionaries that appeared in the late 1990s and the first three years of the 21st century but also dedicating a section to providing a detailed introduction to four excellent dictionaries, greatly enhancing the timeliness and practical value of the book.
