Analysis and Interpretation of Anyang Oracle Bone Inscriptions: Three Studies (Volumes 1 and 2)

Author: Luo Zhenyu
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2006-01-01
Features: During his research on oracle bone script, Luo Zhenyu authored three significant works: "A Study of the Oracle Bone Script of the Yin Dynasty," "A Commentary on the Oracle Bone Script of Yin," (first edition), and "Revised and Enlarged Commentary on the Oracle Bone Script of Yin." After the publication of "A Study of the Oracle Bone Script of the Yin Dynasty," Luo Zhenyu made "corrections" on Tian Mei, which were later included in the "first edition" of "A Commentary on the Oracle Bone Script of Yin." After the first edition was published, Luo Zhenyu added "handwritten annotations and corrections," which were later integrated into the "Revised and Enlarged Commentary on the Oracle Bone Script of Yin." The relationship between these works, as Mr. Chen Mengjia said, "was merely a matter of revision and expansion." However, this "revision and expansion" not only reflected Luo Zhenyu's ever-deepening research on oracle bone script but also indirectly mirrored the progress of early oracle bone script studies. Therefore, we have compiled these three works—the "corrected edition" of "A Study of the Oracle Bone Script of the Yin Dynasty," the "handwritten annotated and corrected edition" of "A Commentary on the Oracle Bone Script of Yin" (first edition), and the "Revised and Enlarged Commentary on the Oracle Bone Script of Yin"—and published them in facsimile for academic research. The title of the book is "A Commentary on the Oracle Bone Script of Yin," as this work is considered a foundational piece in the field of oracle bone script studies and is renowned for pioneering the decipherment of oracle bone characters.
