Publish Date: 2004-06-01
Features: China currently has 29 landscapes listed on the World Heritage List, among which 8 are inscribed as natural or mixed (natural and cultural) heritage. We firmly believe that in the near future, those scenic areas that make China's culture so vibrant and possess outstanding natural values will gain even greater fame. In this regard, the "New Programme for Biodiversity of China's World Heritage" launched in May 2004 helps to define and protect the rich but fragile biodiversity of the country. Today's world is facing numerous rapid and profound changes, making it all the more urgent for us to work together to protect the integrity of this region, one of the most biologically diverse areas on Earth. I am delighted to welcome this publication dedicated to the conservation of China's world cultural and natural heritage. I am also pleased that the Chinese edition of "World Heritage" will be launched during the 28th session of the World Heritage Conference in Suzhou, in collaboration with Beijing World Knowledge Publishing House. The publication of the Chinese edition of "World Heritage" will help convey the message to the Chinese public that protecting our shared heritage is our common aspiration, and we need to work together to pass on the wealth of humanity to future generations.
