Features: The Democratic Republic of the Congo is located in the heart of Africa, abundant in resources, and possesses a unique geographical position, often referred to as the "world's warehouse of raw materials." The sculptural works left behind by the ancient Kuba Kingdom are considered world-class art treasures. However, long-term political instability and economic decline have left the people in poverty. The end of the civil war in 2003 brought new hope to the Congo. The Democratic Republic of the Congo is a historically significant, resource-rich, and strategically important country in Africa, known as the "Jewel of Central Africa," the "world's warehouse of raw materials," and the "heart of Africa." According to archaeological findings, human life has thrived in the Congo for over a million years. As early as the 9th century, the people there mastered copper smelting and cast copper ingots as currency for trade with the outside world. Since the second half of the 14th century, states began to emerge in the Congo. The most historically recorded states include the Kingdom of Kongo, the Kuba Kingdom, the Luba Kingdom, the Lunda Kingdom, the Azandé Sultanate, the Mangbetu Sultanate, and the Msiri Kingdom. These early state organizations were not only significant markers of the Congo's evolution from ancient to modern society but also an important part of the development history of Black civilization across the entire African continent. This book is a comprehensive reference tool that reflects the political, economic, historical, geographical, military, diplomatic, and educational/social development of the Congo. Considering the unique characteristics of the Congo's own development and the existing domestic literature, some adjustments and modifications have been made to certain chapters based on the original outline. For example, Chapter 2, "History," was originally divided into sections such as "Early History," "Medieval History," "Modern History," "Contemporary History," and "Recent History," but this book divides the chapter into "Ancient History," "Colonial History," and "Contemporary History" based on the actual historical development of the Congo. Due to the scarcity of relevant materials, Chapter 5, "Military," has also been simplified in this book. In Chapter 6, "Education, Science, Arts, and Health," although science and technology are relatively important, the author has only collected some scattered materials on humanities and social sciences research during and after the Congo's independence, and thus had to omit this section. In systematically summarizing the various aspects of the Congo according to the established outline of the "Chronicles of Nations," the author strives to integrate content from different fields to provide readers with a comprehensive understanding of the Congo's dynamic development in both vertical and horizontal dimensions. This book is positioned as an academic reference tool, so the author primarily uses systematic, detailed, and reliable historical materials and statistics to analyze the content covered in the book, while also frankly expressing their own views and opinions on major issues. All historical materials and data in the book are cited from the references listed in the appendix, and for the sake of brevity, annotations are generally omitted in the text.
