VOA Standard English Listening: News English III (with audio cassettes)

Features: News English has long been favored by Chinese English learners for its clear narrative and expression, natural and appropriate word usage, and concise language. VOA and BBC's news English programs have always been the preferred choices for Chinese English learners. However, due to various constraints such as time and environment, as well as the lack of sufficient supplementary exercises, English learners are unable to engage in intensive listening, making it difficult to quickly grasp the characteristics of news English and achieve rapid improvement in listening skills. In light of this, based on extensive feedback from English learners, we have selected and compiled materials from VOA news reports to create VOA Standard English Listening: News English III. When selecting materials, the following factors were primarily considered: 1) Prioritize selecting relatively recent materials while ensuring they reflect the characteristics of news English; 2) Broaden the scope of reporting to enrich knowledge; 3) Organize exercises primarily to assess and train functional materials, with informational materials as a secondary focus. This book consists of four parts: exercises, answers, listening transcripts, and reference translations. Due to the faster pace, each lesson's recording is played twice. This book is suitable for English majors as a listening textbook or supplementary material, as well as for postgraduate students of non-English majors. It can also be used by learners with a certain foundation to practice listening and expand their knowledge.
