Features: The Spiritual Pivot (Lingshu Jing) is an indispensable component of The Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon (Huangdi Neijing), containing rich content. Guided by the theory of Yin-Yang and the Five Elements, it comprehensively discusses human physiology, pathology, diagnosis, treatment, and health preservation. It elaborates in detail on the functions and pathological changes of organs, essence, spirit, qi, blood, and body fluids, emphasizing the close connection between humans and nature, as well as the holistic concept of internal coordination. Its most prominent feature is the more detailed exposition of meridian theory and acupuncture techniques. A rough estimate shows that of the eighty chapters in the book, about five-sixths are related to this topic, making it the most important work summarizing meridian theory and acupuncture techniques in China before the Han Dynasty, laying the foundation for the development of acupuncture and moxibustion. The acupuncture techniques in The Spiritual Pivot are also diverse. It not only emphasizes key issues such as guarding the spirit and sensing the qi in acupuncture, but also proposes dozens of acupuncture methods in succession. It provides a comprehensive explanation of the use of acupuncture tools, acupuncture points, depth of needling, contraindications, and the relationship between acupuncture and the four seasons. These ancient methods deserve further exploration and inheritance to enrich the content of modern acupuncture and moxibustion.
