Patient's question:
Our child was born very recently and is still in the postpartum period. However, I've noticed that the child frequently spits things out from their mouth, as if there are many bubbles. When I went to the hospital for a check-up, the doctor said it was due to neonatal aspiration syndrome. What are the symptoms of aspiration syndrome?Doctor's answer:
Reflux syndrome refers to vomiting in newborns during the delivery process due to excessive intake of amniotic fluid, maternal blood, or vaginal mucus, which becomes contaminated with meconium or bacteria, stimulating the gastric mucosa and leading to excessive secretion of gastric acid and mucus. Most cases have a history of difficult labor, asphyxia, or prolonged delivery. Vomiting often occurs before the baby is introduced to feeding, but the infant's condition remains good, with normal meconium passage and no obvious abdominal signs. Vomiting usually stops 1-2 days after the ingestion of foreign matter.
