Features: This textbook is a fundamental part of the "Excellent Textbook Project" organized by the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, intended for use by undergraduate students of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in five-year and seven-year programs at higher TCM colleges and universities. It can also be used by students from non-medical disciplines pursuing TCM studies. To adapt to the development of the times and the modern requirements of TCM education, this textbook was developed based on the fifth edition of "Fundamentals of TCM Theory" originally edited by our university, in accordance with the Beijing Municipal Education Commission's requirements for new-era excellent textbooks to embody "scientific rigor, inheritance, contemporaneity, recognition, conciseness, and applicability." It also incorporates the teaching characteristics of TCM theory in Beijing, as well as the teaching experience and features of our university's TCM theory education.
Significant reforms have been made in the writing methods and format of this textbook, along with important adjustments and supplements to the content. The book is divided into two parts: the first part (Theoretical System) introduces the basic concepts, knowledge, and core content of the TCM theoretical system, reflecting the systematic and comprehensive nature of the TCM theoretical framework. Its structure is more rational, and the theoretical explanations are clearer. The second part (Theoretical Research) includes selected classical medical literature and focuses on introducing new achievements and advancements in the study of TCM theory using modern scientific technologies, methods, and approaches. This reflects the latest accomplishments and standards of TCM theoretical research, aiming to inspire students' enthusiasm, broaden their perspectives, increase their knowledge, and deepen their understanding of TCM theory. This is something not found in previous editions and is one of the most important features of this textbook.
The textbook is strictly written to be concise, conceptually unified, internally clear, and externally consistent, thereby laying a solid foundation for subsequent courses.
