Background Information: Breast cancer poses a severe threat to women's health. According to WHO statistics, from 1990 to 2002, the incidence and mortality rates of breast cancer worldwide increased by 22%. China was originally a low-incidence country for breast cancer, but its rate has been rising rapidly in recent years. In Shanghai, breast cancer ranks as the leading cause of malignant tumors among young women, while in Beijing and Tianjin, it has become the second most common. There are two major characteristics of breast cancer incidence in China. First, the onset age is 10–15 years earlier than in Western countries, with cases starting as early as age 30. Second, there are more cases of advanced-stage breast cancer, accounting for over 35%, whereas in the U.S., only 15% of cases are advanced. In Beijing, the age group with the highest incidence of breast cancer is 45–54, nearly one in a thousand. Clearly, breast cancer poses a serious threat to the health and lives of women. Preventing and treating breast cancer is an urgent mission for society as a whole. Therefore, the United Nations Health Organization has designated October as "World Breast Cancer Awareness Month."
