Features: This Harmony Textbook can serve as a teaching material for harmony courses offered by performance majors, music education majors, and musicology majors in music conservatories. It can also be used as a reference textbook for composition majors studying harmony. Particularly, it is suitable as a self-study guide for readers who do not have the opportunity to attend harmony classes in music conservatories. Harmony is a rigorous and systematic discipline. It is both a theoretical system and related to teaching systems and methods. As a textbook or reader for harmony, it can be written in either a comprehensive and detailed manner or a concise and succinct manner. In his preface to Traditional Harmony (A Concise Course), Hindemith said, "Harmony is not difficult to outline for students." It is precisely because of this viewpoint that the author has dared to make this attempt. The following are some notes on the writing of this textbook:
1. Within the field of harmony, the content covered in this textbook is limited to the theory and application of traditional harmony.
2. The writing of the textbook strives for simplicity and organization.
3. The content of each chapter primarily focuses on general and common harmony theory and techniques. Special, occasional harmonic techniques and phenomena are not included in this textbook.
4. Issues related to non-chord tones have been integrated into relevant chapters and are not presented in separate chapters.
5. To better align with the examination requirements of various teaching systems and methods, the exercises in this textbook are mainly selected from commonly used harmony textbooks in China.
