Features: Proverbs are the crystallization of practical experience in social life. They play a role in guiding social practice. One of the purposes of compiling this Selected English Proverbs is to use it as a reference for readers, especially young people, in their social life practice. Proverbs are highly summarized expressions of various aspects of social life, characterized by concise, profound, and elegant language. Learning English proverbs is essentially learning concise English. Another purpose of compiling this Selected English Proverbs is to provide learners of English with a reference book for studying the language. This book is divided into eight categories: World, Life, Learning, Work, Character, Health, Love, and Friendship, and selects over 130 excellent foreign proverbs written in English for readers to refer to. We do not advocate free translation or literal translation. Instead, we adopt the method of "corresponding translation," using the corresponding Chinese words for the original English terms, except for special grammatical usage in English that has no equivalent in modern Chinese. For the proverbs selected in this book, we indicate the authors when known; when unknown, we cannot.
