Features: Jinshan District is located in the southwest of Shanghai, on the northern shore of the Hangzhou Bay, and sits at the center of the economic region of Shanghai, Hangzhou, Ningbo, and Zhoushan Island, as well as the hub of the Yangtze River Delta metropolitan area. It borders Zhejiang Province and Jiaxian County to the west, Fengxian District of Shanghai to the east, and Songjiang District and Qingpu District to the north. The total land area of the district is 586 square kilometers, comprising 9 towns and 1 subdistrict, with a current population of 550,000. The district has three major transportation routes: the Shanghai-Hangzhou Expressway, the Tongjiang Expressway, and the Xinfeng-Jinshan Expressway. Additionally, there are ferry docks connecting Shanghai to Zhoushan and Ningbo, as well as the Shanghai-Wei Railway Line, ensuring convenient transportation and smooth logistics. Jinshan was established as a county in the fourth year of the Yongzheng era of the Qing Dynasty (1726 AD), named after the Jinshan Island in the sea. Six thousand years ago, Jinshan was already landlocked and one of the earliest areas in Shanghai with human activity. The "Ancient Coast Site" in Shajicun, Caojing Town, is the only remaining ancient coastline relic in Shanghai. Archaeological sites such as Qijiadun, Chashan, and Tinglin prove that early Neolithic settlers thrived in the area, creating a splendid ancient culture in Jinshan. Jinshan was one of the earliest areas in Shanghai to establish local governance, with some towns like Fengjing, Jinshanwei, and Zhujing having more than 800 years of recorded history. On May 12, 1997, approved by the State Council, Jinshan County and Sinopec Shanghai Jinshan Industrial Company jointly established Jinshan District, marking a new chapter in Jinshan's history. Jinshan is one of the earliest districts in Shanghai's suburban areas to be established as a district. The district features flat terrain, crisscrossing rivers, a pleasant climate, abundant produce, and is renowned as the "Breadbasket of Shanghai." In addition to being the vegetable basket and subsidiary food supply base for Shanghai's metropolis, Jinshan is also rich in temple culture. Temples such as Wanshou Temple, Songyin Zen Temple, Wulong Zen Temple, and Donglin Temple are all distinctive. Jinshan is a hub of talent, with many cultural figures. Ancient figures include the Northern and Southern Dynasties linguist Gu Yewang and the Tang Dynasty monk Chuanzi, while modern figures include the mathematician and natural scientist Gu Guanguan, the hydraulic expert Cai Zhen, and contemporary figures like Zhu Xuefan, Cheng Shifan, and Ding Cong. Moreover, Jinshan's peasant paintings and black pottery are renowned both domestically and internationally.
