Features: This book is a basic Urdu textbook designed for general readers to self-study Urdu, as well as for university students majoring in Urdu as a teaching reference. With diligent study, general readers can master the phonetics, basic grammar, and fundamental vocabulary of Urdu, enabling them to read general Urdu articles with the help of a dictionary. The book consists of 37 lessons, divided into two parts: Part 1 is on phonetics, with 9 lessons. Part 2 is on texts, with 28 lessons. The phonetics section includes the Urdu alphabet, pronunciation rules, and writing rules. Each letter is romanized and, where possible, compared with the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) to help beginners correctly master the pronunciation. At the end of the phonetics section, there are practice exercises to reinforce the learned phonetic knowledge. The text section is arranged in order of increasing grammatical complexity, adhering to the principle of gradual progression. Each lesson is divided into four parts: text, vocabulary, grammar, and exercises. Each lesson typically covers one or two key grammatical points, accompanied by numerous examples for self-study. The grammar exercises are closely tied to the learned content, primarily adopting the form of Chinese-Urdu and Urdu-Chinese translation. The Urdu-Chinese translation exercises serve as both a way to reinforce the learned grammar and as examples for the grammar section. The Chinese-Urdu translation exercises are slightly easier in difficulty. The text is combined with the learned grammar, and each lesson includes a vocabulary list to aid in understanding the text. To facilitate self-study, the book includes reference translations of the texts and answers to the exercises at the end. The reference translations of the texts are as literal as possible to allow for easy comparison. The answers to the exercises omit the answers to open-ended questions, and readers can refer directly to the corresponding lessons in the text. Additionally, to aid in oral practice and self-study, the book includes daily conversation dialogues, as well as Indian and Pakistani names of countries and places, Urdu numerals, units of measurement, and currency. At the end, there is a comprehensive vocabulary list for easy reference.
