To publish this series under the name "Je sais quoi?" by the Presses Universitaires de France (PUF) served not only to meet the needs of university teaching and student reading in the special circumstances of the war but also, undoubtedly, had the significance of popularizing knowledge, inspiring people's enthusiasm for reading, and reviving the French nation. We believe that selectively translating and publishing this series will also play its due role for us.
