Features: The Chinese HSK (Advanced) is an important component of the HSK (Chinese Language Proficiency Test). It is aligned with the HSK (Basic) and HSK (Elementary and Intermediate) in terms of proficiency levels, forming a complete national examination system under the HSK framework. The HSK (Advanced) was developed and researched by the Beijing Language and Culture University HSK Center in October 1989. In 1991, three sets of test papers were developed and administered to over 600 candidates from more than 50 countries. Based on this, the official HSK (Advanced) test papers were produced, along with the development of five official documents: the "HSK (Advanced) Syllabus," the "Standards for Written and Oral Tests (Level 5)," the "HSK (Advanced) Scoring System," the "Grading and Scoring Guidelines for Written and Oral Tests," and the "HSK Test Administration Procedures." On July 28, 1993, the HSK (Advanced) was officially approved by experts. The success of the HSK (Advanced) marked the gradual perfection and maturation of the HSK system and the gradual scientific and standardized development of teaching Chinese as a second language. The HSK (Advanced) primarily assesses language proficiency at the professional level. Candidates who meet the designated standards are awarded the "HSK (Advanced) Chinese Proficiency Certificate" by the National HSK Commission. This certificate can be used as proof of Chinese proficiency for postgraduate applications in universities and as a reference for employers to evaluate candidates' Chinese skills. In this edition, the authors have revised the basis, purposes, score level descriptions, test paper composition and question types, test requirements, certification conditions, and consultation and service sections of the HSK (Advanced). The listening comprehension part of the sample questions has been rerecorded, and all textual materials of the sample questions have been proofread and revised. Since 1993, the HSK (Advanced) has been promoted both domestically and internationally. As of 2003, candidates for the HSK (Advanced) have come from over 30 countries and regions worldwide.
