Features: Rural debt is a prominent issue that has gradually emerged in the process of rural economic and social development. Solving this problem promptly is of great significance for the social stability and economic development of rural areas, as well as for the long-term peace and stability of the entire country. To accurately grasp the current situation and development trends of rural debt in China, we organized over 40 students from the School of Economics and Management at China Agricultural University. They conducted field surveys during the summer of 2005 in 10 provinces, with a focus on Jilin, Hebei, Shandong, Henan, Shaanxi, Anhui, Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi, and Sichuan. Among these provinces, Shandong is the only one in the eastern region, while the others are central and western provinces. Based on an analysis of existing research, this book utilizes field survey data to examine the scale, sources, and usage structure of rural debt. It investigates the causes of rural debt at both the township and village levels, as well as the mechanisms of its operation. Additionally, it explores potential solutions and implementation plans for resolving rural debt.
