Features: To achieve the overall goal of textbook development, this series of textbooks establishes the following writing principles:
(1) Adhere to the laws of language, language teaching, and language learning. Broadly absorb achievements from research in linguistic studies, language teaching research, and language acquisition research.
(2) Give equal importance to the structural rules of language and its communicative functions, while also incorporating relevant cultural content into teaching. Broadly absorb the strengths of various teaching theories and methodologies.
(3) Follow conventional textbook writing principles: from easy to difficult, prioritizing urgent needs first, gradual progress, and repeated exposure. Adhere to general principles for second-language textbook writing: targeting, scientificity, practicality, and. For this purpose, the following key measures are adopted in the writing process:
- Ensure accurate positioning of the textbook, using teaching syllabi and level syllabi for guidance and constraints.
- Balance the teaching content between learners' current studies and future work needs, enhancing the encyclopedic knowledge and philosophical depth of the material.
- Emphasize diversity in themes, genres, and stylistic variations. Establish the concepts of cultural pluralism, inclusivity, communication, and mutual understanding, and so on.
(4) Follow the learner-centered principle, with the primary goal of improving learners' language proficiency more quickly and effectively. For this purpose, the structural design, content selection, annotations and explanations, exercise design, and text length of the textbook all adhere to the principle of moving from the macro to the micro, striving to always consider the learners' perspective and evaluate and select content from their viewpoint.
(5) Combine inheritance and development. The textbook design and writing, from theory to practice, from format creation to the organization and arrangement of all stages, must consider its connections and differences with previous textbooks—i.e., the issue of inheritance and development. Fully absorb the successful experiences of previous textbook writing and carefully consider the innovation in the overall and partial aspects of the newly developed textbook.
