The collection presented to the readers records the arduous journey of Researcher Zhu Tingguang in his tireless efforts to build the discipline of world history in China. Zhu Tingguang was a scholar, but also a warrior—in a certain sense, he was first and foremost a warrior. This was not only because he was once a "little red kid" in the family of the People's Liberation Army, fighting for the freedom, independence, and liberation of the Chinese people across the nation, but also because he was always at the forefront in the construction of the discipline of world history in China. As long as he had breath, he fought on, making an irreplaceable contribution to the development of world history in China. During his tenure as Director of the Institute of World History at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Zhu Tingguang made the institute vibrant and achieved remarkable success. He placed great emphasis on the training of middle-aged and young researchers, going to great lengths to help them grow professionally. From my personal experience, he had Chen Xiangchao, who originally studied Italian, graduate under my supervision; he also recommended Wu Yin to apply for my doctoral program. Under his care, a group of middle-aged and young scholars matured and have now become the backbone of the world history field in China. Comrade Zhu Tingguang adhered to the principle of an open institute, widely connecting with world history scholars from major universities and colleges in China. He held great respect for the elderly scholars like Professor Wu Yujin and had planned to invite them to support the writing of a multi-volume world history, though this plan ultimately did not come to fruition. Nevertheless, it reflects his foresight and insight. With his support, Donghua Normal University established a specialized institution for the study of World War II. Similarly, East China Normal University's Department of History also established a specialized institution for the study of World War II. There are many such examples.
