Publication Date: 1993-05-01
Features: Ruan Yuan, styled Bo yuan and known as Yun Tai, was born in the 29th year of the Qianlong reign (1764) and died in the 29th year of the Daoguang reign (1849). He was a native of Yixing, Jiangsu. The Yujingshi Collection is a personal anthology compiled and edited by Ruan Yuan. Except for the works he led in editing, such as Jingjian Ji, Shisanjing Kaogang Ji, Shanuo Jinshi Zhi, Liangzhe Jinshi Zhi, and Churen Fu, most of his life's writings are included in it, reflecting his academic views and research methods in a relatively concentrated and systematic manner. The entire collection is divided into three volumes: Yujingshi Collection, Yujingshi Sequel, and Yujingshi Supplement, totaling 64 volumes. The book and its sequel are organized into four volumes according to the four divisions of Confucian classics, history, philosophy, and literature, with poetry volumes listed separately. The supplement contains 173 prefaces of books not included in the Siku Quanshu, which Ruan Yuan claimed were mostly written by others, with half of each entry revised or created by him. He argued that while the text may not be preserved, the book should be, and thus the supplement could be separately titled "Supplement."
