Shortly after its publication, it was reprinted by Taipei Shushu Publishing House, and the sales volume was surprisingly high. "Sayings of the World" is not only a classic of ancient Chinese literature but also an important in history and philosophy. The text is elegant, and the content is profound, making it cherished by literati throughout the generations as a rare gem. Unfortunately, due to the long history of copying and reprinting, many errors have accumulated. The colloquial language and dialects are difficult to understand, and the names of events and items often cause confusion, making it hard for scholars to read it quickly. After much reflection on this book, I have often encountered its profound insights, extensively researching historical records and literature. I have developed its organizational structure and added annotations, ensuring a logical flow that is convenient for readers. Later, Professor Robert E. Mair's English translation of "Sayings of the World: New Interpretations" was published by the University of Minnesota in the United States, and Yu Jiaxi's "Annotations and Explanations of Sayings of the World" and Xu Zhenqiang's "Collated Annotations of Sayings of the World" were published by Beijing Zhonghua Book Company. Their standards and methods all followed the path set by me. I dare to say that the early efforts were arduous and pioneering, but perhaps calling it a masterpiece would be too generous.
